Debunking  5- skincare myths

The internet is filled with hundreds of skin care practices all claiming to be an essential part of one’s skin care regime. This not only creates confusion in our minds but also spreads lot of myths.

So here, Sheeal Kabra, Founder Earthy Sapo, debunks five most common skin are myths, which her customers believed to be true.

  1. Long skincare regimes ensure healthy skin.

While it is true that a consistent skincare routine is vital for maintaining healthy skin, the length of the routine is not necessarily a determining factor in its effectiveness. The best skincare routine for any individual will depend on various factors, including skin type, concerns, and the products used. Therefore, a combination of products tailored to your specific skin needs is generally recommended rather than following a one-size-fits-all approach. This may not require a longer skincare routine that includes a cleanser, toner, serum, moisturizer, and sunscreen, among other products. Instead, all you need is to start with a face cleanser and moisturize your skin regularly.

  1. Every skin type should be moisturized daily.

Skin needs to be moisturized only if it is dry or prone to dryness. An oily skin, which is already producing extra/excess sebum does not require additional moisturization. Applying moisturizer on an oily skin will infact clog the pores and cause acne/pimples or breakouts. What an oily skin requires is a good face cleanser which cleans the face without drying it.

  1. Washing your face often prevents acne.

Washing your face daily with soap is optional to keep acne at bay. However, the belief that washing your face several times a day with soap is essential to prevent acne is a myth. Infact this practice will do more harm than good as it extremely dries your skin, forcing you to apply a moisturizer, which in turn will clog the pores of oily skin. So instead, wash your face one to 2 times a day with soap and water to keep your skin free from oil and dirt.

  1. You need to exfoliate your skin every day.

Exfoliating removes dead cells, bumps and other impurities from the surface of the skin. However, exfoliating daily can be harmful as it damages the skin and cause redness or inflammation. Exfoliation is ebay done every week or two.

  1. Washing face with hot water can open up and unclog pores.

Washing face with hot water will not “open up” the pores, but will definitely burn your skin! Washing skin with hot water is never recommended. Instead warm water can be used to clean the pores.
