Known to us as hibiscus, it is native to tropical, sub-tropical regions around the world. It is a shrub found all over India. The leaves and flowers are said to have medicinal properties. In Ayurveda, it finds its application in both internal and external medication.
External application
- It is extremely good for the skin. It helps tightening the skin giving it a younger look.
- It has natural cleansing properties because of the presence of Alpha Hydroxy Acids (AHA’s)
- It can be used as a shampoo and conditioner because of the presence of saponins (chemical compounds that make foam with water) and mucilage (gel) respectively.
- It promotes hair growth and prevents premature greying by reducing excessive body heat, stimulating blood circulation to the scalp and increasing the supply of essential nutrients to the hair follicles.
- Applying a paste of the leaves and flowers on the affected area can help treat baldness.
