Popularly known as ‘false daisy’ in English, Bhringaraj is a traditional wonder herb that is highly recommended for long, silky and strong hair. It is a creeper with white colored flowers and is a native to India, China, Nepal, Thailand and Brazil.
External application
- It balances Vata and Kapha dosha.
- It is used extensively to treat hair problems, skin and tooth infections, cough, cold, worm infestations, anemia, inflammation etc.
- It is commonly used in the form of hair oil. Bhringraj oil is made from its leaves (dried) mixed with a carrier oil like coconut or sesame. It is rich in Iron, Vitamin E, magnesium, calcium, steroids and proteins; hence extremely beneficial to hair.
- It helps reduce dandruff, hairfall and graying of hair.
- When massaged the oil is said to cause vasodilation leading to improved blood flow to hair roots thereby promoting hair growth.
- When used topically as a paste of the leaves or juice, it soothes the inflamed skin and treats infections like eczema, boils, pimples, acne, sunburn etc and provides a healthy, radiant and rejuvenated skin.
